Standout DE Matt Roth Commits to Virginia Tech!
Nease Football’s Second Commitment
from the Class of 2011
Techsideline.com
St.AugustineRecord
Nease DE Matt Roth has committed to
perennial national top‐10 power Virginia Tech of the
ACC.
Roth recently
visited a number of schools, including Virginia Tech, South
Carolina, Duke, and Georgia Tech. After spending time
with Hokie coaches on the Blacksburg, Virginia campus a
couple of weeks ago, Roth returned home and narrowed his
choices down to South Carolina and Virginia Tech. It was a
difficult decision but, in the end, Roth chose Virginia Tech
and Coach Frank Beamer. The fact that Charlie Wiles, his
recruiter from Virginia Tech, will be his position coach
with the Hokies was also important to Roth. Matt called
Coach Wiles this afternoon and told him “I’ve decided I
want to be a Hokie!” The excitement in Coach Wiles voice
spoke volumes about how much Roth was wanted in Blacksburg.
“Shoot Yea,” Wiles exclaimed,
“Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about!” Wiles
immediately spread the word to the rest of the Virginia Tech
coaching staff and they all congratulated Matt. “It’s a
great day for Virginia Tech!” said Coach Wiles.
Roth holds over 25 D‐1 offers
including VIRGINIA TECH, SOUTH CAROLINA, WEST VIRGINIA,
GEORGIA TECH, DUKE, PURDUE, MICHIGAN, MISSISSIPPI STATE,
TEXAS‐A&M, ILLINOIS, VIRGINIA, MARSHALL,
NORTHWESTERN, SYRACUSE, CINCINNATI, UTAH, BUFFALO, TEMPLE,
and AIR FORCE.
Roth marks the 76
th
Nease football player
to be placed into all divisions of college football in the
last 6 years and the 44th
to be placed in D‐1A/D‐1AA
over the same period.
